David Flett - Caricature Artist - Southern New Jersey
David Flett has been a working artist since leaving art college, animation school and high school. He has been working full time in almost every catagory of commercial art having used airbrush for illustration and murals, working in film and animation, and finally, fine art painting with oils.

Davids artistic life began after 2 years in a community college studying animation. He worked as an assistant, then, an animator, starting with Sesame Street shorts, TV commercials and then 3 years on a feature film that had a large budget, but, lost it's direction and flopped at the box office. After that, he was back to less interesting TV animation. During this time he even animated Hanna-Barbera's "The Flintstones."
His creativity yearned for more fulfilling work. Turning 25 years old, he returned to school for 2 years to study classical fine art. David took drawing and painting every day, including two intensive study periods of human anatomy.
He later drifted into commecial art , developing various illustration techniques and cranking out storyboards for television commercials and film scripts. This was a perfect compliment to his animation background and they were a fun and fulfilling mental, visual exercise. He also pursued airbrushing murals on canvas and exteriors, using spray guns.
Having had experience and teaching classes at two local art schools with watercolors, acrylic paint, gauche, pencil crayons, markers, airbrush and air guns, he had dabbled, but never become thoroughly intimate with the various technical procedures of oil painting and was beginning to put paintings into art galleries in Toronto and receiving offers from various galleries in the USA through the internet.
In 1995 he took a concentrated study of a condensed version of a 3 year, classical painting course from an ex-Torontonian, John Micheal Angel, who learned his craft and classical training from Maestro Annigino, master painter from Italy, having been chosen to paint the young Queen Elizabeth in 1953. Angel directs and runs Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, promoting the lost lessens of the old painting masters of Europe.
David now paints formal portrait paintings, studio finished works, and "plien air" painting done from life in the field including portraits, caricatures and the occasional freelance illustration. Below are some of his gift and commercial caricatures.
