Nancy Johnson - Caricature Artist - Phoenix, AZ

Art has been a part of my life, a part of me and who I am since I can remember.  It has always interested and captivated me. However, my careers as a wife, mother, homemaker and legal secretary took precedence.  One of many happy, positive results is that I now have three children and twelve grandchildren and one great grandson. 

I have worked for an insurance company, the Selective Service and an architectural firm.  I have worked 37 years for the State of Michigan (the Michigan School for the Blind included).  For the past 32 of those years, I have been employed with the Michigan Department of Attorney General as a legal secretary which I have enjoyed very much.  But, now, I am looking forward to retiring in October of this year (2002) to pursue my life-long dream of becoming a professional artist.

I took art classes throughout high school and, in the years since, I have taken many college courses related to art, in addition to several other independent art studies.  I have worked with many mediums, including pencil, ink, marker, charcoal, watercolor, oil and acrylic.  My experience is varied to include wall murals, fine art, commercial art, general illustration, logos, architectural renderings and, most recently, book illustration and caricatures. 

In caricatures, I have found my “niche” and have, therefore, been motivated to pursue that particular form of art at this time.  I look forward to making people smile at my personal interpretations of them in this unique way.  Welcome to my world – if only for a little while
