Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, in October 1959, Ric has been drawing and cartooning for as long as he can remember. In 1977, he finally enrolled at the Buckinghamshire College of Art and Design. After college, he began a career in antique porcelain restoration. It gave him some grounding in fine brushwork, attention to detail, and adapting quickly to different styles, mainly Meissen, Cantonese and Satsuma porcelain.

 

 

 

A chance meeting with a friend in the animation business in London in 1982 changed the course of his life forever. He left the antique business in favour of animating breakfast cereal commercials (Weetabix), music videos (Donald Fagen, Elvis Costello), and short films (Skywhales). In 1986, he was invited to join a New York animation company, directing more commercials and music videos, such as Madonna’s “Who’s That Girl?”

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 1990 he traveled to Seoul, Korea, to supervise and direct the production of animated series such as ‘Batman’ and 'Doug'. It was during the production of the former that he met his beautiful wife, Maria, the mother of his cherished daughter, Sarah.He stayed in Asia working on such diverse productions as Aeon Flux, and The Kings Beard, in Japan and Taiwan, before returning to England in 2001.

 

 

 

 

For the past three years he has been working on interior mural paintings and caricature oil paintings and also founded his own caricature company. In Feb 2005 he was invited to join BKN New Media in London, where he was offered the position of Art Director on Ali Baba : The Lost Scimitar of Arabia, and later, Director of Production and Supervising Art Director on Christmas Carol: Scrooges Ghostly Tale. He has since directed five other short feature titles for BKN, Robin Hood, Jungle Book, Prince and the Pauper, Three Musketeers, and Alice in Wonderland which were all released in 2007 & 2008.
