Amalia Rubin - Henna Tattoo Artist

Amalia Rubin was born and raised in upstate New York. From a young age, she became involved in Albany's vibrant south Asian community, learning Mehndi (henna) and popular Indian dance. Upon her graduation from highschool, she studied abroad for six months in North-Eastern Thailand, concentrating on Music, Dance and Visual arts. Upon her return to the United States she interned at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City which concentrates on Himalayan art.

She decided to persue her interests at the University of Buffalo, majoring in Asian Studies and studying abroad in India, as well as visiting Nepal and Tibet. Amalia has been doing Mehndi professionally since the age of 16 and uses her travels as an inspiration in her work.

The samples below are representative of the simple designs Amalia can do at larger events.

Serves: Washington, DC area including: Maryland, Northern and Central Virginia, and Metro area. Buffalo, NY area including: Ithaca, Rochester, Toronto, and Portions of Ohio. Albany, NY area including: Catskills, Woodstock, Redhook; also Boston, MA; and portions of Connecticut. Will travel!

Rate: $150/hour per artist with a 2 hour minimum.

Speed: 5-25 tattoos per hour, depending on design size and complexity.
